december classroom

Holiday time is in full swing in Room 73.
December is a crazy month.
But I love it.

Santa's Stuck is one of my favorite Christmas books.
I loved when I found this idea on Cara's The First Grade Parade blog.
And so did the kiddos.

We made these darling elves from Teacher Bits and Bobs.
Such a great find!

I remembered to bring out my holiday word bank.  I have one for each holiday/season, but I always forget about them.  I made them my first year of teaching.  They are very helpful for the students.
The colored grid was my classroom reward chart.  I have the Crayola Magic Markers.  I use the "invisible" marker to draw 6 stars.  Once all are found, we vote on a class party.  PJ day is next Monday!
And this made me tear up.  Too sweet.
Our class Christmas program is on Friday.  The kids are too cute.

december 8

cardigan: Anthro Prairie Rose (Apr. '10)
skirt: Anthro (Dec. '11--this was a popback score!  I thought I had missed out on it a couple months ago when it took a 2nd cut.  Even though it's a couple sizes larger than I would've originally liked, I was tickled pink to see it popback!  It has an elastic waistband, so the size wasn't too big.)
boots: Target (Aug. '10)

{When I looked at this picture after I took it, I decided to untuck the cardigan.  It looked much better.}

My kids have been SO GOOD these last two days!  Woohoo!!  I do love that I get to really celebrate the holidays with my students--too fun!

top: TJ Maxx (Sept. '11)
black skinnies: Old Navy (Nov. '11--yep, I just wore these the other day!)
boots: Anthro (Apr. '11)

I'm funny about this blog.  I don't mind if random people find and look it.  But the second someone I know finds it, I instantly turn red and am very embarrassed.  {I'm so weird.}  I don't proclaim to be a fashionista.  In fact, I look at countless others and think, "Oh, I love that blouse!...Her hair looks fabulous!...I wish my outfits looked as put together as hers."
This blog all started because my best college friend and roommate, Brittney {who lives in Ohio with her hubby and new little baby girl}, called me up and told me that she missed seeing my outfits in the mornings.  I told her that was funny because she and I nearly have the same items in our closets.  Against my will, she created this blog and email.  Britt bugged me about for 4 months before I finally posted an outfit to please her.  And to be honest, I still just post with her in mind.  {Along with my other best friend, Katie, who lives in DC with her hubby.}  So anyway, that's how this whole shebang started.

I'm so thankful for my job, even though I get frustrated with it at times.  Today, one of my little boys came up to me with alligator-sized tears welling up in his eyes.  I asked him what was wrong.  He asked me if I was going to give him back his special pencil that I had used 2 minutes ago to initial another student's behavior contract.  I'm sorry, but I couldn't hold back my chuckling.  I told him the other kid was going to be back soon and would return the pencil and that everything would be ok.  Such a sensitive and tender-hearted little boy.  I love my job!

Thanksgiving Day!

I've been with these guys all break.  It's been so much fun.

My cousin took these pictures in my parents' backyard before we sat down for our feast.  Family pictures always draw some tears from adults and kids.  Luckily they were only from the kids this go round. :)

There are 6 kids in my family: 5 girls, 1 boy.  I'm #5.
 Do we look alike?

Did you score some Black Friday deals?  My sisters and I went our local Anthropologie, which is 5 minutes away, at 5:45 a.m. to try and pick up a few things during their 50% off special.  (It helped that we dropped by Wednesday to scope out the scene and for me to return a couple items.)  We were able to snag one shirt each for myself, my sister, my cousin, and my mom.  My little sister got a pair of shoes, a couple shirts, and a dress.  It was a successful visit.

Hope you've had an enjoyable break!

Happy Thanksgiving Break!!

I hope y'all have a wonderful holiday!  I'm flying home in a couple of hours...yay!

Here's my November classroom.
I have 28 students, but with them being pulled out and absent, I don't always get work from everyone.
After 5 years of teaching, I finally made a how-to-use-the-listening-center sheet.  It has made all the difference.

My students earn table/row points.  In November at the end of each week or day (depending on how I'm feeling), the row that has the most chooses a feather.  Each feather has a different reward: sit by a friend during DEAR, get a cold drink in the hallway, get a cougar cub track, etc.
Like I bet a lot of you, my students make a turkey in disguise.  The paper attached is their letter to Farmer Brown (we read Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type) persuading him not to eat them for his Thanksgiving feast.  My friend Danielle's are so cute; hers may be a homework assignment.
{P.S. I'm grateful for naps as well.  I wish I got to take more of them.  Funny 3rd graders.}

Our pumpkin information and similes.  (Idea from Cara at The First Grade Parade.  She's darling.)

Our Veterans' Day art and thank you letters.  (Idea from Abby at The Inspired Apple.  She's so creative.)
A mom sent these in for our Thanksgiving treat.  Too cute.
Hope y'all have a terrific turkey day/weekend!!

I attended the viewing of one of my coworker's sons tonight.  I haven't been to a viewing/funeral in a very long time.  What made tear up was seeing her 4th grade son so devastated and upset.  Oh man.  It was heartbreaking.  My coworker was very composed.  I know she has the faith that she will see her son again and that he is in a better, more peaceful place.  That is what gets you through times like these.

Some mornings I eat my cereal in the car during my drive to work.  I had JUST backed out of my driveway when I spilled my ENTIRE bowl of cereal and milk all over myself and my car.  I tried to wash my skirt when I got to school.  It made a little improvement.  I smelled like milk all day long.  Bleh.
